Wall-to-wall carpet holds far more than it shows. Fiber decides the chemistry. Getting this wrong is how carpets end up yellowed, browned or permanently stiff.
Nylon is the most common residential fiber and the most forgiving — it responds well to heat and holds up to repeated cleaning. Polyester and PET release water-based stains easily but grab oily soil, so they need a stronger pre-spray on traffic lanes. Olefin looks great in Berber loop carpet and resists bleach, but it wicks: spots that vanish during cleaning reappear as the backing dries, which is why we extract Berber drier than plush. Wool needs pH-neutral products and moderate heat, never a high-alkaline pre-spray. Triexta cleans much like nylon.
Stairs take the most abuse in any two-story Hewlett colonial and need hand tools rather than a wand, so they are priced per flight and cleaned edge to edge including the risers.
If a spot returns two days after cleaning, it is usually wicking — residue deep in the backing traveling up the fiber as moisture evaporates. That is a call-back, not a failure, and we come back and re-extract the area. What we cannot promise is the removal of true dye stains: bleach, some plant food, benzoyl peroxide from acne cream on a bathroom carpet, and a few pet medications strip the color out of the fiber. Pet accidents are a different problem with a different method — that is covered under pet stain and odor removal. There is no cleaning that puts color back. We tell you that at the estimate rather than after.
Pricing is per room and per staircase, quoted flat before we start. A room means a normal residential room; a large open-plan great room counts as two, and you hear that at the estimate rather than at the end of the job.
What is already in the price: pre-vacuum, pre-treatment on traffic lanes and spots, furniture moving, deodorizer, grooming and speed drying. Those are not add-ons. Quoting a low per-room number and then charging separately for pre-spray, spot treatment and deodorizer is how a ninety-nine dollar special becomes three hundred at the door, and we do not work that way.
Fiber protector, subsurface urine treatment, and heavily soiled areas needing a second pass are the only things quoted on top, and all of them are priced during the estimate, before any work begins. If your carpet needs something beyond a standard clean, you find out while we are standing in the room with you.
Most homes take 45 minutes to two hours. Carpet is damp, not soaked, when we leave, and dry in roughly four to six hours — longer in August humidity, faster if you run the air conditioning and keep fans going. You can walk on it right away in clean socks. Move furniture back once it is fully dry.
For a family home with pets and kids, twice a year keeps carpet in good shape. Every 12 to 18 months is enough for a quieter household. Most carpet warranties require professional hot water extraction on a schedule to stay valid, so keep the receipt.
