SUVs are the most common vehicle in Five Towns driveways and the most work to detail properly. There is more glass, more panel area, a taller roof that needs a step to reach, and an interior volume roughly half again that of a sedan. Add a third row and a cargo area and you have two additional zones that a sedan simply does not have.
They are also family vehicles, which means the interior soil is different in kind, not just quantity. Crushed snacks in the second-row seat tracks, juice in the cupholders, sand from the beach in every seam, and a cargo area that has carried groceries, sports equipment and often a dog.
Third-row seats are the least used and least cleaned part of any SUV. Crumbs and debris fall through the seat backs into the folding mechanism and the well beneath, where nothing reaches without folding the seats and working with hand tools and compressed air. It takes real time, and a detail that skips it is not a detail.
Second-row seat tracks are similar. On captain's chairs and sliding benches the rails collect an impressive amount of material that a wand passes straight over.
The cargo area gets extraction rather than a vacuum, because it carries the messes. Under the load floor, the spare well and the side compartments are opened and cleaned. If a dog rides back there, this is where pet hair removal and odor treatment do most of their work.
Outside, the tall roof and large glass area take longer than people expect — roof rails in particular trap grime along the mounting feet and are a common rust starting point on older SUVs. The rear tailgate area and the load ledge take scuffs from bags and get attention on a pre-sale detail.
A full SUV detail runs five to eight hours. Third-row and full-size SUVs sit at the top of that. Express maintenance is closer to two hours.
