Low-moisture deep cleaning that removes dust mites, allergens, perspiration and odor from the surface you spend a third of your life on.
A person loses roughly half a liter of moisture a night, plus a steady shed of skin cells. Both go straight into the mattress. That combination feeds dust mites, whose waste is one of the most common indoor allergy triggers, and over the years it also creates the yellowing that shows up when a mattress protector finally comes off.
Mattress cleaning is a low-moisture job by necessity — a mattress cannot be soaked, because the core will not dry properly and you cannot flip a wet one over. We clean both sides with controlled moisture and strong vacuum recovery, and the bed is usually usable again the same evening.
Both sides get cleaned on a flippable mattress. Pillow-top and memory foam constructions are cleaned on the sleeping surface only, with extra care on moisture, because foam holds water far longer than a spring mattress.
Children's mattresses are the most common call we get for this service, and urine in a mattress behaves the same way it does in carpet: it dries, crystallizes, and comes back as an ammonia smell every time the room gets humid. Blotting and spraying an over-the-counter product treats the top layer only.
We treat with an enzyme that breaks down the residue rather than perfume that covers it. Fresh accidents come out completely. A mattress that has absorbed repeated accidents over months may improve dramatically in smell while keeping a permanent visible stain — and if the contamination has reached deep into the core, we will tell you the mattress is finished rather than take money for a cleaning that will not hold.
If someone in the house wakes up congested, with itchy eyes or a stuffy nose that clears an hour after getting out of bed, dust mite allergen in the mattress is a reasonable suspect. Cleaning removes a large share of the accumulated allergen and waste.
To keep it that way: a zippered allergen-barrier encasement on the mattress and pillows, sheets washed hot weekly, and bedroom humidity kept moderate — mites need humidity to survive, and South Shore summers give them plenty. Cleaning once or twice a year maintains the reset.
Mattresses are priced by size — twin, full, queen, king — flat and quoted before we start. Both sides of a flippable mattress are included rather than billed as two. Box springs, fabric headboards and upholstered frames are inexpensive additions on the same visit.
We need to be direct about this, because people call us hoping otherwise. Cleaning a mattress does not eliminate bed bugs. They live in the seams, the frame, the box spring and the wall behind the headboard, and removing them requires a licensed pest control operator using heat treatment or a professional insecticide program. Extraction cleaning will not do it, and any cleaner who says otherwise is charging you for something that cannot work.
If you suspect bed bugs, call an exterminator first. We are glad to clean the mattress afterwards once the infestation has been treated, and at that point the cleaning is worth doing.
Since we are already in the room with hand tools, fabric headboards, upholstered bed frames, box springs and bedroom chairs are usually worth doing at the same time. Fabric headboards in particular collect hair product against the wall side and rarely get cleaned at all. Bundling them costs less than booking separately later, and the same goes for upholstery cleaning elsewhere in the house.
